The Welcoming

The Welcoming

The morning sun doesn't just enter the studio; it awakens the clay.

In these early hours, the light in the valley is soft and silver, filtered by the lingering Cape mist. It finds its way across my workbench, turning raw porcelain from a matte shadow into something luminous.

This is the "quiet presence" I often speak of.

As the sun catches the fine-walled rim of a pinch bowl or traces the relief of a fynbos motif, the translucency reveals itself. It’s a daily reminder of why I returned to this life—to work in rhythm with the light, rather than against a clock.

In this stillness, between the warmth of the sun and the cool touch of the earth, the work begins.
